ORGANIZATIONS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS The Graduate Student Association (GSA), part of the Associated Students of Arizona State University, represents graduate student interests within the student government. It assists the Division of Graduate Studies in planning various orientation programs for graduate students. The Graduate Student Association Research Development Program seeks to promote excellence in research as well as to provide graduate students with the experience of writing and submitting grant proposals. The program provides financial support for projects which are not eligible for other sources of funding. Proposals are reviewed competitively by a Research Council composed of five panels of graduate students, recommended by the dean of their college and a faculty advisor. Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) is another excellent organization for graduate students. The Graduate Scholars of English Association (GSEA), the official organization for graduate students in the Department of English, represents the interests of all graduate students in the department. GSEA provides a forum in which graduate students can express their concerns and opinions. GSEA also sponsors formal and informal gatherings as well as faculty presentations and workshops where graduate students meet and interact with faculty and other professionals (e.g., publishers, administrators). Meetings are open to all graduate students in the Department of English who may join the association for a modest annual fee. The Creative Writing Students' Association (CWSA) is composed of graduate and undergraduate students (not necessarily English majors) who are interested in creative writing. It sponsors readings by nationally renowned writers of fiction, poetry, and drama, and promotes other activities of interest to writers and students of writing. Sigma Tau Delta is an international honorary society for English majors and minors, undergraduates and M.A. graduate students, with at least a 3.0 GPA in English. The ASU chapter was established in 1932. Meetings are held at least once each month. For more information, contact the Chair of the English Department for more information.
