Information for International Students

International students must meet the requirements of the Graduate College as outlined in the Graduate Catalog and the Graduate College international student web page. In addition, all applicants for graduate study in English whose native language is not English must submit a score of at least 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Ordinarily, students whose native language is not English must have completed a full year of study at Arizona State Universit y or at some other American college or university before being eligible to apply for a teaching assistantship in the Department of English. A minimum score of 55 on the Test of Spoken English (or SPEAK Test) is also required for teaching assistants.

Resources Available to International Students

International Student Office (480 965-7451) Student Services Building Room 265.

ISO provides a variety of services including orientation, immigration advising, referrals, and programming. Their programming includes activities which assist international students in meeting people and adjusting to their new lives at ASU.

American English and Culture Program (480 965 2376) Mariposa Hall. AECP is an intensive English as a second language program which prepares students for academic work at the university level. Students may enter the appropriate level classes several times during the year. Fees are separate from ASU tuition.

Writing Across the Curriculum (480 965 3097) Lang and Lit Building - 3rd floor

Curriculum Development and Support is designed to assist in enhancing the quality of writing and critical thinking skills of university students. The Writing Center provides students with one on one and group tutoring in writing skills.
