ASU English Home > Undergraduate Advising > Links > Internships Getting Started Some internships can be applied towards the English major or the Writing Certificate program. All internships that are registered through the English Department will be counted as upper-division credit. Here are a few links that will be helpful when registering for an internship. NOTE: You are NOT required to register with the department when doing an internship, but your internship experience cannot be used for ASU Department of English credit purposes unless you have registered and fulfilled the requirements for ENG 484 Undergraduate Internship. Finding an Internship that Suits You The Bottom Line Most of today's college students are looking to get on the fast track to a career. In many cases, grades alone will no be enough to land that dream job, especially in our fast-paced society. Employers are now looking for field experience as proof of your skills, and there is no easier way to gain these skills than through an internship. Where to Start Think about the skills you have, that you need to improve, or even a new skill that you want to acquire. Writing, editing, document production, and even website development skills are currently in demand. And there are many other areas in which you can gain experience. Remember, the idea behind an internship is to build on your existing skills and to gain further experience that will ultimately lead to a career. Where to Look In the Department of English, we've gathered current internship positions. Agencies are eager to train and hire interns for the summer or school year. And just because a company isn't listed with us doesn't mean they're not interested. Seek out and find your dream internship through letters and phone calls. Many small companies will be thrilled that you are showing an interest. To receive daily posts about internships please sign up for the English major/minor distribution list. You can also contact the English department internship coordinator, Jeanne Dugan. There are several other websites dedicated specifically to internships, and numerous books that will help point you in the right direction as well.
