After 3 years of pre-med studies, I trained at Augustana Hospital in Chicago and became a registered Medical Technologist MT(ASCP). I recently received an award for 50 years of active membership in the American Society of Clinical Pathology. I worked in various places as my husband and I moved around the country for his training and military duty, finally staying home to be with my 4 children in 1962 when we moved to Phoenix. When my youngest child went off to college, I became a re-entry student at ASU and majored in English. I received my BA in 1987 and an MA in 1989 from ASU. I taught mostly composition as a TA, FA, and finally as an Instructor. I retired from ASU in 2003 with Emerita status. My only connection these days with medical technology is the annual workshop I conduct for the ASU medical technology program in the College of Clinical Sciences. While in the English Dept., I revived the Printer's Devil writing contest for students and was active in teaching Service Learning classes. I have created a writing course for the Emeritus College and taught one class part time for the Writing Program. I rarely participate as a charity volunteer anymore but am now conducting a monthly book club/ literature class for the Maricopa Medical Society Alliance. Obviously my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren take up much of my time; because they all live away from the valley, I spend some of my time traveling to them.
