The Exam Application, with the selected book, must be submitted to the School of International Letters and Cultures no later than the above application date for each exam. The application can be picked up at the Graduate College (Admin B 170) or the School of International Letters and Cultures (LL 440). This application must be signed by your Graduate Advisor or the Chair of your committee before it can be submitted for approval.
The text for the exam must be in the student's chosen foreign language, must be a minimum of 200 pages, must be a scholarly work, must not be fiction or poetry, and must be approved by both the student's advisor and the School of International Letters and Cultures. It is advisable for the test to relate to the applicant's field of study or research. You will be graded on your ability to translate a short passage, twenty-seven (27) lines to two (2) pages, of the foreign language being tested into coherent English. Translations should include main ideas and important details of the passage.
The results of your test will be reported within four weeks of the examination.

All exams are from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the scheduled test date. The room for the exam will be decided upon later and sent to each examinee by a confirmation letter
