Technology Workshops

The Language Computing Lab will be announcing the Fall 2007 series of SILC Technology Workshops shortly.

In the mean time, you are welcome review the Spring 2007 offernings. From Wimba and Web Pages to ePortfolios, anti-Plagiarism and Podcasting, these hands-on workshops will give participants an introduction to the various technologies and digital resources which give an added dimension to today's language and literature classes, whether in the traditional classroom, in the Language Computing Lab, or online in myASU/Blackboard.  

Normally on Fridays (except for the first one) from 2:00-3:30 in LL-65, the Language Computing Lab, the topic schedule for the Spring Semester is: 

  • Virtual Office Hours, Voice Boards,
    and more with Wimba Voice Tools

New features in Wimba:

    • Voice Presentations to narrate Web page interaction (check out a sample by clicking this link; (note: it may take half a minute for the Wimba Java applet to load, and you must ACCEPT the download, if there is a Security Dialog box)
    • Virtual Office Hours with Voice Direct. 
    • Podcasting from Wimba
    • Upload audio files into Wimba
    • Access to Wimba voice tools from within Blackboard.

Workshop attendees will be at the top of the list for the loan of headsets to use in your office.

  • Enhanced SCOLA Streaming News
    • SCOLA's  Insta-Class service is a weekly lesson in current events, ready for your students to click and go.  Come find out how to take advantage of this great online resource.

  • Simple Web Pages with Word and Course Genie
    • How to create simple web pages with Microsoft Word, and interactive course presentation web pages with Microsoft Word and Course Genie, all of which can be posted within Blackboard, or on your own website.   
  • ePortfolios
    • How to use electronic Portfolios for your students to document skills and progress in language learning   
  • Electronic Compositions: Markin, Safe Assignment and Blackboard
    • How to use Markin software to automate the assignment of comments and grades to compositions submitted as word processing documents.
    • How to use Safe Assignment in Blackboard to check for plagiarism   
  • Painless Podcasting (rescheduled from 4/20)
    • How to create and make available audio for your students to download and access, either on their PC or on their portable mp3 player
    • Podcasting from within Wimba
