The Arizona Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), together with several other colleges, is sponsoring the statewide Sixteenth Annual Arizona Japanese Speech Contest on Sunday, April 17, at the University of Arizona. Approximately fifty students will compete from among seven universities and colleges and several high schools in the state of Arizona. We are very happy that the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles and the Japan Business Association of Arizona have agreed to help sponsor our event. This event is part of the "Year of Languages" campaign of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). This is a yearlong campaign to heighten public awareness of the importance of language learning for social, cultural, academic and workplace benefits that will serve students all their lives.
If you know of organizations that would like to assist in sponsoring this event, please contact AATJ President Joni Koehn at jkoehnphd@wmconnect.com.
