FACULTY OF CLASSICS AND MIDDLE EASTERN LETTERS AND CULTURES
The linguistic component of the Hebrew program at Arizona State Univesity is designed to give students basic conversational, reading, and writing skills in Modern Hebrew. These linguistic skills can be useful for a large number of academic majors, including, of course, Religious Studies and Jewish Studies, where they are an obvious necessity. Israel’s prominence on the world stage, however, makes Hebrew language a useful tool for students interested in pursuing such fields as international politics, international business, and world history.

In addition to the courses aimed at language acquisition, a substantial number of Hebrew courses are actually taught in English, and are designed to provide a broader view of Jewish, Israeli, and Hebrew cultures and histories. These include such courses as History of Zionism; History of Israel; Justice Issues in Israel/Palestine; Israel and the American media; Israeli Cinema; History, Memory and Identity in Israel; War and Peace in the Middle East; Religion in the Arab-Israeli Conflict, and more.
