SCIENCE IS FUN INTERNSHIP
LEADERSHIP AND CAPSTONE INTERNSHIPS

The Science is Fun program is a great opportunity to enhance your public speaking skills, gain practical experience teaching science concepts in local K-8 classrooms, work with other highly motivated interns, learn how to present exciting classroom science demonstrations, earn 3 hours of academic credit in MSE 484, and above all, have fun!

All majors are welcome. No prior experience or special background is required; complete training and transportation from the Tempe campus is provided. Interns work in teams of 2 or 3. Graduates, Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen are eligible. This is not a paid position. Extra Credit and “Footnote 18” Honors Credit are available by arrangement with the instructor. Enrollment requires instructor approval. Interns must be available one day per week, possibly as early as 6:30am to as late as 4:00pm. This timeframe includes travel time. Most site visits do not encumber this much time; actual schedules vary according to the needs of each school. In addition, due to the unusual scheduling needs of this internship, the first two class meetings (Group Training Sessions) are held on the first and second Sunday evenings after classes begin, from 6-9pm. Thereafter, participation is limited to one weekday each week (weekends only by special arrangement for extra credit).

After successfully completing the Internship, with Instructor approval, an Intern may continue as a Leadership or Capstone Intern (MSE 494). Leadership Interns help with Intern training, field evaluations and special outreach events. Capstone Interns help develop new learning modules and other programming.

Interdisciplinary Studies majors can also apply to have the Science is Fun Internship (MSE 484) satisfy their directed study requirements under BIS 401 (3 credits). Students must first get approval from the BIS Coordinator before submitting their application.
