So you want to Join the Speech & Debate Team?

If you are interested in joining the team, you've found the right place.

Any Arizona State University undergraduate is invited to participate in the collegiate forensics program.  Participating students need not be a communication major and you are not required to audition to become a member of the team.  We welcome all levels of experience.  You can come join us if you have four years of high school experience or if you have never even seen a round of competitive forensics.

If you are interested in pursuing forensics on a collegiate level and would like to pay us a visit during a college tour, please  either send us an email or give us a call (contact information is at the end of this page).  If you are a current ASU student, please stop by the squad room (in the basement of Matthews Hall) or stop by my office (Michael is in Stauffer Hall room 426).

Collegiate competition is similar to high school competition with a few distinct differences.  Read about the individual events here.  Additionally, college debate is similar to high school policy with a few differences in speech times.  Here are some other differences that exist:

  1. In college you can enter in as many events as you want, in fact we encourage competition in multiple events!
  2. You can travel a lot or a little.  We compete both regionally and nationally.  Our national competitions take us all over the country!
  3. Our debate team and individual events teams travel to tournaments both together and separately.
  4.  You set your own coaching hours with the coaches.  We have a team meeting on Tuesdays but all of the outside work is up to you!
  5. Our squad room has tons of resources for you to use in preparing for competition and for schoolwork.

Please follow the link here to complete a web form that will send us information about you and then we can mail you information as well as get in contact with you via phone and/or email.
