Nemi Jain is a professor of communication in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, and a senior fellow in the ASU Center for Asian Studies.  Before joining ASU in 1976, he taught at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.  In 1974, Dr. Jain received a Young Teacher Award of the Central States Speech Association.  Currently he teaches courses in intercultural communication in domestic and international contexts, and intercultural training.

His research focuses on cultural patterns of India, cross-cultural adaptation, Gandhian concept of non-violence, and the United Nations.  Recently, he has been studying the role of silence in managing social conflicts.  Dr. Jain served as Editor(1976-1982) of the International and Intercultural Communication Annual published by the National Communication Association.

Dr. Jain currently serves on the Arizona Attorney General Council of Social Justice for Asian Americans and was awarded a Patricia Gurin Scholar-Activist Award by the ASU Intergroup Relations Center in 2004.  He has worked with the Indo-American community for the last ten years and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Indo-American Foundation of Arizona.  Dr. Jain is also a Faculty Co-Advisor of the ASU Model United Nations Club.
