My commitment to the study of human communication is based on the firm conviction that all human beings deserve the right to be fully conscious of whether they are expressing themselves freely. Culture and the systems of meaning-making that we co-create as interactive human beings can both facilitate and impede expression. I emphasize the use of spiritual practice as part of the ethnographic method to uncover the ways in which culture manifests itself in society, organizations, and individuals. I believe the research process can be an empowering and awakening experience for all scholars, and love my teaching and engagement with students because of this. Note: My published work may also be found under my previous name, Maria Cristina Gonzalez.
