Steven R. Corman (Ph.D. 1988, University of Illinois) is a Professor in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University, studying the relationship of talk and written communication to organizational networks and activity systems. His reticulation theory holds that communication network links are “switched on” by shared activity, resulting in talk (or written communication) that restructures the system for future shared activity. This theory has a broad range of practical applications in areas like counter-terrorism and knowledge management. Corman has served as a consultant and science panel member for the Department of Defense in the counter-terrorism arena, and directs the Consortium for Strategic Communication in the Hugh Downs School.
Corman is Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Crawdad Technologies, LLC. The company is an ASU spin-off that is developing a patent-pending network text analysis technology called Centering Resonance Analysis. He is also Chair of the Organizational Communication Division of the International Communication Association, is an Associate Editor of the journal Human Communication Research, and serves on the editorial board of Management Communication Quarterly.
