Prevention Research Center (PRC)

The PRC is part of ASU's Psychology Department, and was established in 1984 as an NIMH funded Center to develop, evaluate and disseminate prevention programs for children and families in high stress situations. Research at the Center focuses on children and families experiencing four different stressors, parental divorce, poverty, bereavement, and parental job loss.

The PRC conducts four kinds of studies.

     1. Studies to better understand why some children adapt well in
stressful situations while others develop mental health and related
         problems.

     2. Studies to develop interventions to promote better adaptation by
individual children, parents and communities, and prevent the
occurrence of mental health and associated problems.

     3. Experimental field trials of the efficacy of the interventions.

     4. Studies to disseminate effective interventions to community
         settings.
