Graduate Travel Awards
The Center for Asian Research is pleased to offer
limited funding on a semi-annual basis to support graduate student
travel related to the presentation of scholarly research or for
doctoral dissertation research. There are two application deadlines
per
calendar year: April 15 and November 15.
First priority is given to graduate students who are
presenting their research at juried international ($500) and
national ($250) conferences.
Second priority to masters or doctoral
students presenting their research at juried regional conferences
($150), and
third priority
to doctoral students who are planning dissertation research trips.
Applicants for travel to conferences should submit the
following:
1) a letter of request with the name, dates and location
of the conference;
2) title and abstract of paper to
be presented;
3) proof of juried acceptance need not be furnished
at the time of application, but is due before funds
will be distributed.
Applicants for travel to conduct pre-dissertation or dissertation
research should submit the following:
1) a letter of request including the intended destination(s)
and a summary of the work to be conducted, including a list of
the specific library or museum resources to be consulted;
2) a letter from the student’s committee chair attesting
to the importance of the student’s research, the necessity
of travel for research and the appropriateness of the selected
site, and the student’s academic standing.
