Come from: Key Laboratory of Land use, Ministry of Land and Resources

Working with Lela Prashad, School of Earth and Space Exploration

Participated Project: 100 cities project

Main work in ASU: 2000-2007 is a meaningful period of time. It¡¯s the period with a dramatic change of Beijing¡¯s land use/cover. On one hand, adhering to the concept of ¡°Green Olympics¡±, the Chinese government has make great efforts in ecological improvement and environmental protection of Beijing; on the other hand, the Olympics need more urban construction such as stadiums, traffic facilities, Olympic Village. Which one is the main driving force of Beijing¡¯s LUCC and how about the change trends? We try to find answers in our research. My main work is mapping the different phases¡¯ land cover classification for Beijing by using of ASTER image. The object-oriented classification method is applied in my study. Comparing to traditional pixel-based method, the object-oriented classification possesses much advantage, such as avoiding the annoying salt-and-pepper effect, making full use of context among image objects...

¡¡

My research interests include the application of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to monitor and map natural resources and human settlements, specifically the computer classification of land degradation degree based on both morphological and spectral information in remotely sensed data; estimating indicators which reflect land quality condition directly or indirectly through processing and analysis of hyper-spectral and high spatial resolution data; land-cover and land-use classification and change detection at various spatial scales.

•      Hyper-spectral Remote Sensing

•      Land Use and Land Coverage Change Detection

•      Spatial-temporal Modeling

•      Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Resource Management

He has traveled extensively throughout China visiting rock art sites and Producing a series of reports, articles and papers from a variety of sites http://chinarockart.org/ he made it. SuSheng has a broad network of colleagues and collaborators and has visited and is familiar with all of the areas. SuSheng has a number of academic science committee of UNISCO for Rock Art committee of world and visited the United State a number of times and other countries. On April 2007,He has received a six-month research appointment at ASU to advance his skills in areas such as GIS. he have been worked with Peter Welsh and other colleagues opened exhibited on China-USA rock art in three cities Liangyungang,Yingchuan,Zhongwei.

Now he have gotten two grant with the Colleagues of ASU. One is work for science education with Steven Semken assistant professor School of Earth and space exploration at ASU. Other is NEH Implementation Grant to develop a multilingual exhibit Isletan Images: A Photographic History of the Pueblo in the 19th Century. He with Henry Walt (Project Director and Adjunct Professor in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change,Elizabeth Brandt (Professor of Anthropology and program head for Anthropological Linguistics in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change), Gwyneira Isaac is Museum Director and Assistant Professor of Anthropology in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change. the exhibit will travel to many Museums of USA and also travel to some Museums of China.

The next step will be develop to make plan for the Rock Art of china exhibited at  the Arizona State University Museum of Anthropology (ASUMA) and Deer Valley Rock Art Central  and then travel to museums in United States
