Hong Kong

In its progress towards becoming the brightest jewel in the west, ASU has recognized the importance of a strong working relationship with Hong Kong, the “Pearl of the Orient.”

ASU has paired ASU professors with local governments both in the U.S. and in China and with World Bank on China’s public administration reform. Several projects with a group of scholars in Zhejiang University are underway to promote China's local government reform and local economic competitiveness.

Strengthening an already vibrant collective of collaborative thought between ASU and Hong Kong, Dr. Sandler and Dr. Ayers from the ASU Prevention Research Center visited the Center for Behavioral Health at the University of Hong Kong to present a two-day workshop on their research on the promotion of resilience for children from divorced homes and for bereaved children. They then consulted with faculty from the Center for Behavioral Health for several days on collaborative research between the Prevention Research Center at ASU and the Center for Behavioral Health at Hong Kong University. Potential areas of collaborative research include the study of cultural differences in children’s grief in the United States and China and the effectiveness of preventive interventions for children across the United States and China.  Dr. Amy Chow from the University of Hong Kong is scheduled to visit the Prevention Research Center at ASU in spring 2006.
