Materials
Art 227 Watercolor I

 Paper
18x24 newsprint (Kelly Paper sells bulk newsprint very inexpensively)
140lb Cold Press paper as needed. Recommended brands are Arches, Lanaquarelle and Fabriano. Don't buy student grade paper; it is not worth the money.
Watercolor sketchbook - You can make your own if you want.
  8½x11 paper for daily sketches

Brushes Buy good quality brushes and make sure they are watercolor brushes. Kolinsky sable is the best and most expensive; synthetics are good and cheaper.
You will need: No. 12 round sable, No. 6 round sable, 1" flat, large Sumi brush
2-3" house painting or hake type brush (soft bristle, preferably natural)

Paints The name of the paint comes first, the type of pigment is in brackets. Get tube paints not pan paints. Buy good quality paints: Grumbacher, Winsor Newton, Holbein, Da Vinci and so on. Do not buy student quality paints as they are generally inferior. Also, avoid anything with the word "hue" after it. Buy large tubes as we will be using a fair bit of paint in the course.
