About AAFSA

Mission Statement

The Arizona State University Asian American Faculty/Staff Association (AAFSA) promotes and enhances the well-being of Asian and Asian Pacific American faculty, staff and students through active representation and participation in the affairs of ASU and the community at large. AAFSA welcomes all members of the ASU community who identify as Asian or Asian Pacific American or who have an interest in supporting AAFSA's mission and objectives.

Campus Highlights

  • 422 Asian Pacific Americans work at ASU as faculty, administrators, professionals and other staff.
  • 2535 Asian Pacific American students attend ASU.

History

Founded in 1987, AAFSA has aided in increasing the visibility and presence of Asian American faculty, staff and students on ASU's campus. Members of AAFSA have contributed to the following:

  • The first conference for Arizona Asian/Americans, "Arizona Asians Together" in 1986
  • Establishing ASU's Asian Pacific American Studies Program, the first of its kind in the Southwest
  • Asian LEAD Academy
  • Asian Student Scholarship Fund
  • 1992-2004 AAFSA Speaker Series
  • Retreats & workshops on leadership development, workplace issues, community building, etc.

Why Join AAFSA?

Professional and social activities

Network and socialize with others by attending meetings, potlucks, colloquiums, retreats and other events featuring AAFSA members as well as local/national speakers.

Community Involvement

Demonstrate community support by attending or participating in campus events including Asian Pacific Heritage Month, Asian Culture Night, and Asian Convocation.

Cultural Awareness

Celebrate and learn about the cultural diversity of the Asian Pacific American community through colloquiums, events at Gammage Auditorium, conferences, films and guest lecturers. And it's free!
