2006 Founders’ Day Award Recipients A Diverse Group
In early March, the Alumni
Association honored seven individuals as part of its annual Founders’ Day celebration. The dinner and
award ceremony commemorates the granting of a charter to ASU’s
predecessor, the Territorial Normal School of Arizona, on March 7,
1885, and the Founders’ Day awards are given to alumni, staff
and faculty who exemplify the pioneering spirit of the university’s
creators.
Noel Stowe
Professor of history, winner of the Faculty Service Award.
Stowe is being honored for his work on various committees and projects
in the field of public history.
Felicity
Snyder‘ 04
B.A.
Program coordinator, School of Life Sciences, winner of the
Staff Achievement Award.
Snyder is being honored for her work as the staff coordinator for the
Center for Biology and Society and several other department programs.
Laurie Chassin
(seated)
Professor of psychology, winner of the Faculty Research Award.
Chassin is being honored for her 27 years of research excellence at ASU, in
the fields of substance abuse development and childhood mental health.
Israel
Torres’ 94
B.A.
Former director of the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, winner
of the Young Alumni Achievement Award.
Torres is being honored for his work with the registrar of contractors
office, his volunteer work, and his dedicated service work as an alumnus
of ASU.
Maureen Daly Goggin
Associate professor of rhetoric, winner of the Faculty Teaching Award.
Goggin is being honored for her fresh, innovative teaching approaches
to working with ASU students.
Martin
Shultz’
66 B.A.E., ’67 M.Ed.
Vice president
at Pinnacle West Corporation, winner of the James W. Creasman Award
of Excellence.
Shultz is being honored with the Alumni Association’s most
prestigious award for his work as a lobbyist for Pinnacle West, his
efforts to
improve education in Arizona, and his many volunteer leadership roles
with the university and the Alumni Association.
Kevin Olson’ 77
B.S.
Partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, winner of the Alumni
Achievement Award.
Olson is being honored for his service to the Alumni Association, as
well as his distinguished record of civic involvement in the Valley
of the Sun.
