Six exceptional professors have been named to the university’s most prestigious ranks as ASU Regents’ Professors for 2006. Their selection was ratified Dec. 2 by the Arizona Board of Regents; their induction is scheduled to take place April 27.

The honorees are Cordelia Chavez Candelaria, professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies and English; Carlos Castillo-Chavez, the Joaquin Bustoz Jr. Professor
of mathematical biology; George Poste, Del E. Webb Distinguished Professor of biology and director of the Biodesign Institute; and Rogier Windhorst, professor of physics and astronomy, all from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Douglas Montgomery, ASU Foundation Professor of engineering in the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering; and Edward Prescott, professor of economics and Nobel laureate in the W. P. Carey School of Business….

University of Washington, Seattle, electrical engineering professor Deirdre Meldrum has been appointed dean of ASU’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering beginning in January 2007. Meldrum will hold an academic chair and will direct a new center within the Biodesign Institute, as well…

Elsie Moore has been named vice provost starting July 1 for Academic Affairs at the West campus. Moore currently serves as director for the Division of Psychology in Education in the College of Education at ASU's Tempe campus…

Marjorie S. Zatz, a professor of justice and social inquiry at ASU, has been named vice provost for academic personnel for the university. She will be responsible for all matters related to academic personnel and oversee the tenure and promotion process on all ASU campuses…

John Hepburn has been named dean of the College of Human Services at the West campus. Hepburn has been serving the college as interim dean since June. Hepburn has been with the Tempe campus as professor in the School of Justice and Social Inquiry since 1984…

The College of Public Programs recently named Mary R. Gillmore as the new director of the School of Social Work. Gillmore will be responsible for enhancing external funding for the ASU School of Social Work, as well as planning and executing the school's move to the new ASU Downtown Phoenix campus…
