Apparently you can go home again. That’s what Clint Myers is doing as he becomes the third-ever head softball coach in the team’s 35-year history.

An ASU graduate (Class of ’73), Myers brings a long and highly successful track record to the Sun Devils program. In 19 years of coaching baseball and softball at various levels at Central Arizona College, he compiled an overall record of 887-235. He led the Vaqueros’ softball team to six National Junior College Athletic Association titles, including five in a row from 1988-1992. Myers was also was selected as the National Softball Coaches Association regional and national coach of the year in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

He inherits a team that has earned NCAA Regional berths in eight of the last nine years. The team went 30-26 overall this spring, but finished with an uninspired 4-17 mark within the Pac-10.

He’s no stranger to championship level play at ASU. As a baseball player, he was a member of the Sun Devils’ 1972 and 1973 national-runner up teams at the College World Series. Also, prior to his first head coaching job at the collegiate level, Myers returned to Tempe as a coach for the Sun Devils junior varsity baseball team that went 35-9 in 1976. That year, he assisted Jim Brock with the varsity team that placed third at the College World Series.

Myers’ first move as head coach was to add Robert Wagner, a former assistant softball coach at the University of Washington and the University of Utah, to his coaching staff.
