Serving as your alumni association chair this past year has been extremely rewarding, and I leave with many wonderful memories.

As chair, I have attempted to communicate, build commitment and camaraderie with the board, committees and alumni. Meeting with alumni from Chicago to Orange County, working with talented alumni volunteers and staff, and representing the association at a variety of university functions has been exciting.

My most cherished memory has to be representing the alumni association and speaking at the December and May commencements. Looking out at the sea of men and women ready to meet the challenges of today's society both inspired and moved me.

The ASU Alumni Association is growing. We are chartering new chapters, increasing membership numbers and adding new services. We want you to join with us as we build up the university, connect with other Sun Devils, and have a good time! Give your alumni association officers, committees, and chapters your support as together we build this organization into one ready, willing and able to support the New American University.

ASU has become a key player in the intellectual, economic, social and cultural vitality of our state and region. Nationally ranked in freshmen National Merit Scholars ... honoring a faculty Nobel Prize winner ... the Mars program ... interdisciplinary research and learning — each portrays increasingly exciting times at ASU. Our university nurtures future leaders, challenges faculty, propels technology and throws the doors open to innovation and enterprise.

Your ASU Alumni Association is enhancing services to the university, its campuses, events, chapters and alumni nationwide. Collective time, talent and commitment are essential to effectively support ASU and ensure rewarding alumni experiences. Together we can assist students, celebrate accomplishments, renew acquaintances, maintain traditions, savor the excitement and expand the promise that is ASU. As current chairperson I urge you to join our membership to help create a legacy of which we can all be proud. Make ASU Alumni a cause — not just an organization.
