News and Notes from Sun Devils everywhere
African American
Our chapter was proud of its float in the 2004 Homecoming Parade and
our sponsorship of a leadership conference with the African-American
Men of ASU. Both events were held in November.
On Feb. 16, we held our 4th Annual Scholarship Dinner in Carson
Ballroom. Yetta Gibson from Fox10 was the guest emcee for the
evening and our
guest speaker was Matthew Whitaker from ASU’s history department.
Thanks to everyone for such a successful event.
Our regular chapter business meetings are scheduled at 6 p.m. on
the second Tuesday of each month in the ASU Visitor Information Center
on the corner of Rural Road and Apache Boulevard.

Austin Club
The
Austin ASU Alumni Club had a busy year in 2004. This was
the first year
where we were involved in college recruiting, and we held
our first Sun Devil Send Off. We had game-watching parties for ASU
football
and had our first road trip to see ASU take on Rice University.
The club has a lot planned for 2005, including our annual “Best
Ball” golf tournament, monthly happy hours, the Sun Devil
Send Off, and sports watching parties.
Please visit our Web site for further information. All of our sports
watching events are held at the Fox and Hound, located at the corner
of 4th Street and Guadalupe in downtown Austin. We are proud to serve
the Sun Devils of central Texas.

Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies
After a successful gown collection at Convocation in December, we are
planning on continuing the drive to collect gowns for future graduates
of the
BIS program.
We worked with the BIS College Council during Homecoming to create
a float, and we were successful in our Homecoming Week Bake Sale as
well.
We have elected Nicole Horn as our new director of membership, and
we are looking forward to continuing our membership drive. We have
a flurry
of events planned for the spring season, and we look forward to our
May BIS graduates having the opportunity to join the BIS alumni chapter.
Check us out and join the fun.

and Barbara Barrett, the benefactors for whom the Barrett Honors College
is named, will be our honored guests and featured speakers. Funds raised
from the dinner will be used to sponsor honors students in their work
on their thesis.
Tickets to the event are $75 each. All donations will be appreciated,
and any charitable donation over $30 may be considered tax-deductible.
Donations to sponsor a student participating in the Celebrating Honors
Thesis Symposium to attend the dinner are also welcome. Questions about

also enjoyed
dinner in the press box suite of TGIFriday’s Front Row restaurant.
On
April Fool’s Day, we boarded the “S.S. Extended Ed” for
a cruise of Tempe Town Lake. After docking, the group enjoyed appetizers
