Enrollment at
ASU continued to rise this fall, reaching a record 58,156 at all
campuses, more than 600 students over last year’s 57,543 enrollment.
Programs at the East campus registered a 12 percent increase in enrollment, for
a total of 3,983 students. The West campus also is experiencing record growth,
with enrollment increasing 3.4 percent to 7,348 students. The Tempe campus grew
slightly to 49,171, just 270 more than last fall.
ASU’s largest freshman class in history — 7,719 first-time freshmen — also
included a record number of scholars. The class has 162 freshman National Merit
Scholars, and a record 482 National Merit Scholars are enrolled at the university
overall. ASU was third in the nation last year among public schools in enrolling
these top students.
The Barrett Honors College has a freshman class of 759, with a record average
SAT score of 1,310 and high school GPA of 3.8. Test scores were up for all ASU
freshmen, reaching an average 1,102 SAT and 23.3 ACT.
