Western PA group gets basketball fever…
The Western Pennsylvania/ Northern Appalachian Sun Devil Connection group will have a game-watching event on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the North Hills Clubhouse in Gibsonia, Penn. Alumni from western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia will cheer the men’s basketball team as they take on the University of Arizona Wildcats. …and opera fever, too
The Western Pennsylvania/Northern Appalachian alumni connection group will also host an ASU at the Pittsburgh Opera night on April 4 at the Pittsburgh Benedem Center. Alumni group member Henry Alviani has a singing role in the opera company’s production of “Aida.”
Tickets are $45, which also includes a post-performance buffet. The reservation deadline is March 7; for ticket information, e-mail halviani@clarion.edu.

Minnesota Sun Devils build their network
The Twin Cities alumni group is gearing up for a networking party, at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28 at Graf Optical in Roseville. For information, e-mail Erin.Sorensen@asu.edu.

 

New York alums remember and raise funds
The Greater New York alumni chapter will host its annual Jim Stephens Memorial Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation wine tasting fundraiser at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, in the wine cellar of Vintage New York in SoHo. All proceeds from this event will go to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Stephens, our former chapter president. Suggested donation at the door will be $60.

LA Devils celebrate March Madness with men’s and women’s team
Los Angeles-based alums have two chances to cheer on the Sun Devils in the coming month: they can boost Coach Charli Turner Thorne’s phenomenal women’s basketball team when they play UCLA (Feb. 28) and USC (March 1), and they can catch the men’s basketball team play in the Pac-10 Tournament at the Staples Center March 12-15.

Complete all-session passes for the Pac-10 men's tournament in the ASU section (lower level at Staples) is $250 for nine games over four days. To order tickets, call the ASU Ticket Office at (480) 965-2381.

Hit the slopes with Colorado alums March 8
Come join fellow Sun Devils on the slopes of Copper Mountain on Saturday, March 8, for the Colorado chapter’s official ski day! Lunch and drinks will be provided, and ASU goodies will be available for those who RSVP. Enter the event raffle to win your own Sun Devil Stadium replica!

As part of the school-centric model, ASU President Michael M. Crow has named Debra Friedman as university vice president in addition to her position as dean of the College of Public Programs. This appointment gives ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus the same organizational structure as the other three ASU campuses.

Help make West campus a “Point of Pride”
ASU’s West campus is under consideration to receive a designation as a civic “Point of Pride” by the Phoenix Pride Commission. The honor, which is awarded every four years, recognizes a city landmark that evokes a sense of pride among area residents. Voting to determine the next set of “Point of Pride” designations is open to all Web visitors, regardless of location, and begins February 11.
