Herberger alums highlighted in 2009 calendar
The alumni chapter for the Herberger College of the Arts has introduced its inaugural alumni calendar, filled with inspirational stories and news about alumni from around the country. The 16-month calendar for 2008-09 is just $10, including shipping and handling, and benefits the chapter’s scholarship programs.

Engineering alums plan Sept. 20 BBQ
The Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering alumni chapter invites engineering alums to join current students for a barbecue on Saturday, September 20, prior to the ASU vs. Georgia football game. The event will be held at the Brickyard at 7th Street and Mill Avenue in Tempe and will get started three hours prior to kickoff. For more information, call Kendra at 480-727-7600.

 

Recreate at Rio with RTM alums
Bring the entire family out to “Recreate at Rio,” an event hosted by the Recreation and Tourism Management alumni chapter, 6-8 p.m., Saturday, August 16 at Rio Vista Park, 8866 West Thunderbird Road, Peoria. Native American chapter to host scholarship benefit dinner Oct. 18
Native American alums will gather on Oct. 18 at the 14th Annual Josiah N. Moore Memorial Scholarship Benefit Dinner. The theme this year is “Connecting with the Vision of Josiah,” and proceeds from the event deliver financial opportunity to current Native American ASU students through building the chapter’s endowment fund.

Piano prep program helps kids hit all the right notes
The highly successful ASU Piano Prep/Conservatory Program, housed in ASU’s School of Music celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2008 and invites new students age 7-17 to enroll. Interviews for the program will be held Aug. 20-21 from 2 to 6 p.m.

The Tempe Chamber of Commerce and the ASU Alumni Association will host the 8th Annual Sun Devil Football Kickoff Luncheon on Aug. 22 to jump start the ASU football season as Head Coach Dennis Erickson, President Michael Crow, Alumni Association President Christine Wilkinson and Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love rally the audience and share their vision for the upcoming season.

Sports Illustrated names ASU athletics program No. 1
On the strength of three national titles and multiple conference championships, Sports Illustrated is lauding ASU as having the top ranked athletic department for 2007-2008.

Sun Devil athletes go for the gold
Tune in to the 2008 Olympics in Bejing and you may just see a Sun Devil winning a medal! Former and current ASU athletes competing in this year’s summer games for Team USA include field athlete Trevell Quinley and heptathlete Jacquelyn Johnson. Sun Devils who are competing for their home countries include diver Joona Puhakka, who is competing for his native Finland; track stand-out Joel Phillip of Grenada; track athlete Marcus Duncan of Trinidad and Tobago; and Mohammed Madwa, a freestyle swimmer from Kuwait.

 

Financial support helps reinstate men’s swimming
Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love announced July 15, that the athletic department was fully reinstating the sport of varsity men’s swimming due to financial support from various donors across the globe.

ASU Lifelong Learning students who are also members of the ASU Alumni Association can have their registration fees waived for classes taken at ASU’s Polytechnic (Mesa) and West (Phoenix/Glendale) campuses, as well as for classes taken through the “Tempe Connections” program.
