Baseball season kicks off with high hopes

Continued success can be a blessing and a curse.

Everyone enjoys winning, of course. But do it often enough and everyone comes to expect it, all the time.

That's been the case with Arizona State University baseball for a long time. And it's what led Tim Esmay, the assistant head coach under head coach Pat Murphy, back to Tempe a few years ago.

Esmay grew up in the Valley and played at ASU under legendary coach Jim Brock. He also served as an assistant coach, but in 1996 went to the University of Utah as an assistant, before taking over the head-coach job the next year.
