President's
Letter
In this issue, we cover one of President Michael Crow's key strategies for developing ASU as the New American University: a university-wide emphasis on cultivating entrepreneurship. Another strategy in this development process involves facilitating the institution's evolution into a leader in researching, and embodying, sustainability.
Sustainability is the simple idea that, as human beings, we place a high value on our own quality of life and that of future generations. To be sustainable, our actions must reflect what is important to us. The magazine you hold in your hands has undergone a number of changes related to sustainability. Our physical dimensions have changed to 8 by 10 inches, reducing the amount of paper required to produce the magazine. We are currently using paper stock approved by the Sustainability Forest Initiative, and will be upgrading next

issue to a product that has received the Forest Stewardship Council's Chain of Custody certification from the Rainforst Alliance.
This designation means that the paper we will print on can be verified to have come from wood harvested from responsibly managed forests, ensuring that our magazine is produced in the most sustainable way possible. Our magazine is printed using a high percentage of soy-based ink, another hallmark of environmental responsibility.
In this issue, we also announce the rollout of Sun Devil generations, a family involvement program designed to introduce children to ASU as early as possible. We hope you'll consider joining the Alumni Association and sponsoring a child in this exciting program.
