Meet the Alumni Association's new board members
Ken Behringer
Chairman
Ken Behringer is the new chairman of
the board, having been vice chairman last year. He holds three degrees
from ASU: an undergraduate
degree in political science (’74 B.A.), a law degree (’78
J.D.), and a M.B.A. degree (1988). He serves as general counsel for
the Arizona Legislative Council and makes his home in Tempe.
Michael A. Pressendo
Chair-Elect
Michael Pressendo ’90 B.S. is returning
to the Alumni Association board after several years away. He
has served the board in numerous
capacities over the years, including
as membership and marketing committee chair, chapter representative
to the board, and as member of the strategic planning and executive
committees. He has also served as
the president of the Phoenix alumni chapter and a co-chair for
the Founders’ Day celebration. He is
also involved in a number of civic organizations, including the
Phoenix Museum of History, Arizona Town Hall, the Greater Phoenix
Chamber
of Commerce, and Valley Leadership. Michael is director of brand
communications for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. He
makes his home in Phoenix.
Sandra A. Day
Past Chairwoman
Sandy graduated from ASU in
1965 with a B.A. in Political Science and in 1973 with Masters
of Public Administration. An attorney
specializing in disability and
employment law with the Mesa
firm Day Kavanaugh PC, Day’s law
studies were pursued, as she says, “south of the Gila River.” Her
weekends are filled with cheering
for Sun Devil sports or landscape gardening. She is president
of the East Valley Bar Association, a Franciscan lay associate,
and a
volunteer for the ASU School of Public Affairs alumni chapter
and
the All Saints Newman Center. She’s proud to welcome an
incoming
freshman Sun Devil granddaughter.
Richard J. Scherr
Treasurer
Richard Scherr graduated
from ASU in 1971 with a B.A. in Recreation and Business. He makes
his home in Newport Beach,
Calif., where he’s employed by Cardinal Health.
In addition to his duties with the Alumni Association board,
he is also chairperson of the National Eagle Scout Association/Boy
Scouts of America, and a member of the American Legion, the Marine
Corps Association, the Navy League, and the Aircraft Owners Pilots
Association. He was a sophomore class president of Phoenix College
and involved in efforts with other former class presidents to
redesign the Sophomore Fountain.
New Board Members
Joseph Udall ’92 J.D. joins the board after participating
on the Alumni Association’s audit committee in 2005. He
is a business attorney practicing in Mesa. Barbara Clark ’84
M.Ed. is the community relations and education manager for Motorola’s
Arizona operations. Jeffrey Olen ’96 B.S., a senior software
developer for Goodwin Procter LLP, has been the president of
the New England Alumni Chapter for the past six years. He lives
in Belmont, Mass. Andy Hanshaw ’87 B.S. is an annual fund
officer for San Diego State University and has been the
president of ASU’s San Diego
Alumni Chapter. George Diaz Jr. ’96 B.A., ’99 M.P.A. is senior public affairs representative for the
Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and has served on the board
of the Los Diablos Alumni Chapter since 2003. David Benner ’02
B.S. is
assistant chief of police in Prescott, Ariz., and a founding
member of the Criminal Justice and Criminology Alumni Chapter.
In addition to the new members, Anne Sawkiw ’99
B.A. has
moved from a position as a chapter representative to an at-large
board member. She is special events coordinator at the National
Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and has been a leader in
the National Capital Alumni Chapter. |
