Time to pull out those maroon and gold shirts. Homecoming is Saturday, October 27. If you come back every year, then you know it’s a ton of fun. And this year, with Sun Devils football off to a flying start, with even more events planned by the colleges, and a Block Party and parade that’s going to be bigger than ever in its fifth year…this is going to be the best Homecoming ever! If you haven’t been back for a while, then what are you waiting for? Homecoming is when ASU rolls out the maroon carpet and welcomes home alumni and their families for a fun-filled day.

The ASU Alumni Association has planned a weekend’s worth of activities to bring you back and re-acquaint you with your alma mater and classmates. Special campus tours, lunch with coach Erickson, a Friday night social and Sunday brunch are just some of the activities planned for you. Click for more details:

A to Z – Reasons to come back for Homecoming

ASU Alumni Association

All alumni are welcomed at our tents during the Block Party where there will be live music from CC Ryder Express, a place to hang out and food for purchase from Waldo’s BBQ. If the mood strikes you, get up and dance!

Barrett, the Honors College

The Barrett folks are all set to welcome alumni and their families with a global experience at their tent southeast of the Fulton Center. There’ll be face painting, food and a chance to see what BHC is doing to “Go Gold Globally.”

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

More than 30 schools and departments will be showcased in the tents between Old Main and Piper Writers House. There’s something for everyone including “Lucy,” cotton spinning, reptile exhibits, a wind wagon, glass blowing, science demonstrations, meteorite displays, a book fair, interactive games and hands-on arts and crafts. Delta Chi Fraternity Charity Golf Tournament

Educators re-unite! College of Education Reunions

Special reunions are planned for the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education’s Classes of 1957, 1967, 1977, 1987 and 1997 during the Block Party. Football Game

Ooops, with all the fun of the Block Party we nearly forgot about football. After the Block Party, head to Sun Devil Stadium for the Homecoming game against the California Bears. Get your tickets from thesundevils.com or by calling (480) 727-0000.

Go West alumni!

West alumni get VIP treatment in the Block Party. There will be special entertainment, food and giveaways at the tents sponsored by the West campus colleges and Westmarc. The first 500 West alumni who register online enjoy complimentary food and beverages. Go to west.asu.edu or call (602) 543-5300 to RSVP. Also, roundtrip bus transportation is available between Tempe and the West campus for the football game; call (602) 543-2586 to reserve.

Herberger College of the Arts

Come meet and enjoy light refreshments at a reception with Dean Kwang-Wu Kim from 1-2:30 p.m. Then onward to the Block Party tent where there will be live music, kids’ activities and demonstrations. Ira A Fulton School of Engineering

It’s a big year for the School of Engineering. Four units are celebrating 50 years: Del E. Webb School of Construction, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering and Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Just for College of Design folks

The College of Design and Dean Reiter will host a special tour of the college at 3:30 p.m., followed by hospitality at the Block Party tent. To join the tour, meet on the north side of Neeb Hall. Kids have the most fun

Bring the kids to the special Kids’ Village where there will be tons of games and fun activities for our future Sun Devils.

Lantern Walk

Take part in ASU’s oldest tradition on Friday night. A candlelight hike up A-Mountain begins the night. Songs are sung, speeches are made, and we “light the mountain on fire” through the use of a spectacular fireworks show.

Nursing celebrates 50 years

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation. There will be a Homecoming Alumni Reception on October 19. Details at nursing.asu.edu/anniversary/10192007.htm

Out-of-Towner?

There are special rates at several hotels for out-of-town alumni. The Hilton Garden Inn Scottsdale Old Town is one. It is located 5 miles north of campus, in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. For a list of hotels offering specials for alumni, go to asu.edu/homecoming.

Parade

The Parade starts at 3 p.m. followed by the Block Party at 4 p.m. Come early to snag the best vantage point. Student organizations, athletes, the ASU marching band, Sparky, cheerleaders and alumni groups parade along University Avenue on colorful floats and decorated vehicles.

“Relevance of History for Contemporary Problems”

Here’s the antidote to football fever. The Department of History hosts a 2-day panel discussion on “The Relevance of History for Contemporary Problems” on Friday and Saturday. Details at asu.edu/clas/history.

Softball Game

Catch an alumni softball game at Farrington Stadium on Saturday. Starts at 1 p.m., free.

Tempe Chamber of Commerce and ASU Alumni Association Homecoming Gala

Another Homecoming tradition. Dress up, eat from nice china plates, dine, dance and mingle with ASU leaders, alumni and the local business community at this formal event held the night before Homecoming. W. P. Carey School of Business

Join in the annual Homecoming Hall of Fame celebration on Friday night at the Arizona Biltmore. Three distinguished alumni will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in this black-tie affair. Mix and mingle with valley business leaders and business alumni. $150 per person. Your car gets in the fun too

Come find out how you can outfit your car with the MVD’s ASU Sparky license plate. If you bring your vehicle renewal form, or license plate number and VIN, we can help you apply for it on the spot. Stop by the ASU Alumni Association area during the Block Party to get your Sparky license plates for $25.
