Purchase a photomosaic portrait of Senator Barry M. Goldwater and help an American Indian student at Arizona State University.

ASU American Indian Student Support Services is selling photomosaic posters of Barry M. Goldwater to raise funds for scholarships.

The posters were created in 1999 by Rob Silvers, who invented the photomosaic technique when he was a student at MIT¹s Media Lab. He gained fame for his magazine-cover portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana and other notables.

Silvers used 950 color slides that the Senator took himself in 1939 and 1940, and 80 of his black and white portraits of Navajos, all from the Heard Museum archives. The photos were scanned and reduced in size. Silvers used a computer to arrange the photos so that from a distance, they combine to form the image of Goldwater.

American Indian enrollment at ASU increased from 902 in 1996 to 1,427 in 2006.  Our aim is to increase enrollment to 2,000 in the next few years.  Not all American Indian students are fully funded by grants or scholarships.  Students who exhibit or demonstrate a strong desire to be successful will be direct beneficiaries of the Scholarship.  Many students often see opportunities to advance but fall short on finances to cover expenses.  The Scholarship further increases the retention and graduation of American Indian students at ASU.

Unsigned posters are $20 each and signed posters are $40 each plus shipping/handling.  Unsigned posters come either with a cardboard backing or without a backing.  Signed posters do not have a cardboard backing.  Once the order/payment is received, the unsigned or signed poster will be shipped in Priority Mail tubes and the shipping/handling cost is $6.00.  Cardboard backed poster shipped outside of Arizona is $10.00.  Allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
