U.S. Immigration

How do I get from the airport to Arizona State University?

Pre-arrival Information

IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS
Only use the I-20 issued by the school you plan to attend! If you enter the United States using the AECP I-20, you must attend AECP. We are required by US Immigration and Naturalization (INS) to report all students who do not arrive and register. Students may transfer from AECP to another school only at the end of every semester (May, July, December).

Do NOT enter the U.S. on a tourist visa, visa waiver or border crossing card. You must enter the U.S. as an F-1 student. The I-20 and I-94 card (the white card you get when you come through immigration) are very important. Do not lose them!

ALL F-1 students in language programs must study full-time (21 hours per week). Students who are not registered full time are violating immigration laws. It is your responsibility to be a full-time student throughout your stay in the United States. The AECP Student Advisor will help you if you have any questions about immigration regulations. F-1 students cannot work off- campus and must meet AECP eligibility requirements to receive work permission for on-campus employment.

WHAT TO PACK
U.S. Immigration Process
You will probably enter the United States through an international airport. There, you will go through immigration and customs. You should carry the following documents with you (do not pack them in your luggage!):

  • your passport
  • I-20
  • copies of your financial support documentation

The immigration (INS) officer will take page one of your I-20 and will return pages three and four (student copy) to you. You will also be given a white card which is the I-94 arrival/departure record. This card will be stapled into your passport. This card is very important. It shows the date you arrived in the U.S., your admission number, your status (F-1) and how long you are allowed to stay in the U.S. (D/S - duration of status). Review the documents returned to you to make sure that the information is correct.

TRANSPORTATION FROM PHOENIX SKY HARBOR AIRPORT TO ASU
The Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is about six miles west of the ASU campus. To get from the airport to the ASU campus, your dormitory or a hotel, you can take the Super Shuttle at the airport. Taxicabs are also available to take at the airport.
