A part of the mission of ASU counseling centers is to provide preventive and educational interventions through outreach programming and workshops. The first role of outreach programming is to support and enhance the learning environment for students at ASU. The second is to facilitate learning by students through psycho-educational presentations aimed at minimizing, preventing, or intervening in psychological concerns that may affect academic progress.
The counseling centers also partner with, and provide referrals to, programming offered by other ASU entities that offer workshops and presentations on topics such as sexual assault, substance use/abuse, eating disorders and body image concerns, and sexuality issues.
In some cases, fees may be charged to students participating in workshops. For more information, contact the individual counseling center.
One of the goals of ASU counseling centers is to provide leadership in promoting positive systems change and growth within the ASU community. The staff at all ASU counseling centers has developed consultation and liaison relationships with a number of campus agencies, departments, and student organizations. Counseling staff interacts with parents, faculty, and staff who are concerned about the well-being of an ASU student. Examples include concerns about students exhibiting a decline in academic functioning, displaying unusual behavior, or presenting safety concerns on campus, in a residence hall, or in a classroom.
In situations in which multiple students experience a traumatic event, the counseling-center staff is available to meet and assist individuals as well as to provide any needed follow-up mental health services. Consultation services are provided at no charge.
See the counseling centers’ Web pages for detailed information on services provided at Counseling and Consultation at the Tempe campus, Student Counseling Services at the West campus, and Student Counseling Services at the Polytechnic campus. For information about counseling and other health services at the Downtown Phoenix campus, see the ASU Health Center Web site.
