Nonimmigrant international students must submit an employment clearance letter from the International Student Office (ISO) at the Tempe campus or, if the student is registered at the West campus, the International Student Services Program at the West campus before starting on-campus employment if they:

Students with a visa classification of J1 attending ASU under an academic exchange program are not allowed to work for pay.
Students with a visa classification of F1 attending ASU to study English must provide an employment clearance letter from the American English and Culture Program.
Students with a visa classification other than “F” or “J” need to have permission to work from the appropriate Human Resources Office for that campus.
The employment clearance letter must state that the student is eligible for on-campus employment.
