General Employment Eligibility Criteria

In general, ASU students are eligible to participate in the student employment program if they are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens.

International Students

Nonimmigrant international students must be enrolled for a full course of study in accordance with federal regulations to participate in the student employment program. For exceptions, see USI 304–08, “Employment of Nonimmigrant International Students.”

Continuing Students

Continuing students seeking summer employment may be asked to provide evidence of their intention to enroll in the fall semester if not enrolled during the summer.

Hourly Employment Eligibility Criteria

In addition to meeting the general employment eligibility criteria, students wishing to participate in the student employment program as hourly employees must be enrolled for one or more credit hour(s) during the academic semester in which they are employed (fall/spring). Students who are preregistered for the fall semester may begin working once the spring semester has ended. Students preregistered for the spring semester may start employment once the fall semester has ended.

Federal Work-Study Program Employment Eligibility Criteria

In addition to meeting the general employment eligibility criteria, students wishing to participate in the student employment program as Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) employees must

  1. be enrolled at least half-time, if they are enrolled in a teacher certification program that is required by a state for a professional credential or certificate (i.e., undergraduate students enrolled for six or more semester hours or graduate students enrolled for five or more semester hours). Students in other programs who are enrolled on a less than half-time basis are eligible for Federal Work-Study jobs; however, in selecting students for FWSP jobs, ASU will give priority to students who are at least half-time students.
  2. be admitted to or continuing in a degree or certificate program (students not enrolled in a degree or certificate program are eligible for hourly employment only)
  3. demonstrate financial need and otherwise be eligible to receive federal student financial assistance

    and

  4. be making satisfactory academic progress in their chosen course of study.

Students may begin their FWSP employment on the first day of the semester for which they are awarded Federal Work-Study funds.
