Policy
A veteran, regardless of age, is eligible to participate in
Veterans Upward Bound program if the individual:
- meets one of the following criteria:
- is a citizen or national of the United States
- is a permanent resident of the United States
- provides evidence from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services that he or she is in the United States for other than a
temporary purpose with the intention of becoming a citizen or
permanent resident
or
- is a permanent resident of the trust territories of the Pacific
Islands
- has been separated from military service under conditions other
than dishonorable
- is, at the time of initial selection, a potential
first-generation college student and/or a low-income individual
and
- has a need for academic support in order to successfully pursue
a program of education beyond high school.

Definition
- Veteran
- A person who served on active duty as a member of the Armed
Forces of the United States
- for a period of more than 180 days, any part of which occurred
after January 31, 1955, and who was discharged or released from
active duty under conditions other than dishonorable,
or
- after January 31, 1955, and who was discharged or released from
active duty because of a service connected
disability.
