Policy

[horizontal rule]

A student employee receiving funding through the Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) may work throughout the specific award period unless:

  1. the student has earned the authorized FWSP award amount for the award period
  2. the student fails to meet enrollment or eligibility requirements
  3. the employer terminates the student

    or

  4. the source of federal funding is exhausted.

The student must stop working at the end of the award period or when the award limit has been reached, whichever occurs first. Payment from the FWSP cannot be made for hours worked after that time. Any additional hours worked must be paid from the hiring unit’s funds.

FWSP funding that the student was eligible to receive but did not earn during the specific award period cannot be transferred to the next academic year.

Responsibilities for Not Exceeding Award Limit

The employing unit has primary responsibility for monitoring the student’s FWSP earnings to verify that the award limit is not exceeded.
