SSM 206–02: Deferred Payments for Veterans for Tuition, Required Books, Materials, and Supplies

Purpose

To assist students eligible under the Veterans Educational Assistance Act for Education with tuition, and the timely purchase of books, materials, and supplies required for courses through a deferred payment plan while attending school

Eligibility

To be eligible for deferred payment of tuition and/or purchases at the ASU Bookstore, the student must:

1. verify eligibility under the Veterans Educational Assistance Act for Education Benefits at Veteran Services at one of the campuses

   and

2. not have defaulted in payment on any previous promissory notes.

Policy

Charge or Reimbursement Plan

Eligible students may defer payment for tuition, books, materials, and supplies required for courses in any semester for which they are enrolled. Materials available at the ASU Bookstore may be charged.

Purchase Period

Books, materials, and supplies purchases must be made no sooner than two weeks before and no later than four weeks after the semester begins to qualify for deferred payment.

Restrictions

Maximum Allowable Amount

The student may charge required books, materials, and supplies provided the cost of materials and supplies does not exceed $100.

Returning Items

The student must provide receipts when returning ASU Bookstore items. Books may be sold back to the bookstore at prescribed rates.

Repayment

Due DatesD

The repayment is deferred according to the following schedule, corresponding to the semester or session in which payment was deferred. Usually, due dates remain the same from year to year. However, if the due date falls on a weekend, it will be extended to the following Monday.

Fall semester	October 25
Spring semester	March 25
1st summer session	June 25
2nd summer session	July 25
8-week summer session	June 25

Students who do not repay the deferred amounts by the applicable due date will have a 30-day grace period before late fees are assessed. Students must begin payment to avoid submission of the account to collections. Also, students cannot register for any future semesters until the indebtedness is cleared.

No interest is charged during the period of deferred payment.

Procedures

Tuition

The student must:

1. verify eligibility at Veterans Services at one of the campuses

   and

2. complete a Veterans Deferment Request, provided by the above-named offices.

The ASU Veteran Services section must notify the Tuition Payment Office/Student Accounts.

Purchasing Materials at the ASU Bookstore

The student must:

1. verify eligibility at Veterans Services at one of the campuses

   and

2. charge the required books, materials, and supplies.

Repayment

The student must pay the deferred tuition and ASU Bookstore charges by the appropriate due date (as specified in this policy).
