Principal investigators (PIs) whose externally funded awards generate facilities & administrative cost recovery
![]()
The amount initially awarded for an Investigator Incentive Award (IIA) equals five percent of the expected facilities & administrative (F&A) cost to be recovered.
The IIA funds are allocated shortly after an award is received.
IIA amounts are included in the Sponsored Project Award Notice. The budget officer for the vice president for research and economic affairs will prepare a memorandum with specific instructions on how to access the funds
An IIA award is not made if the amount to be awarded is less than $100. In cases where an IIA is split between co-investigators and it results in less than $100 for any co-investigator, the lead investigator will receive the full IIA. There is no upper limit.
