Current regulations require that live animals necessary for university research be ordered through one central office and only from suppliers approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The office of the university’s Animal Care Program has been assigned that responsibility.
![]()
The Animal Care and Use Committee is responsible for reviewing and approving all teaching and research activities involving the use of live animals.
All requests for the purchase of live animals from an off-campus vendor must be approved in the Animal Care Program (ACP) office by the university veterinarian or designee.
ACP does not procure wildlife species.

The procedure for purchasing live animals is on the Purchasing and Business Services Web site.
