Identifying personal property reduces the chance of theft and significantly assists in the identification and retrieval of missing property. The ASU Police Department (ASU PD) provides a service known as Operation Identification to any individual or group desiring to have personal property marked. The ASU PD encourages property owners to mark or engrave all items with individual driver’s license numbers or state ID card numbers. An ASU Police number also may be engraved to assist in the identification of items in case of theft. Groups can receive engravers on loan from ASU PD to conduct a large-scale engraving activity with assistance from PD.

ASU PD reminds all university personnel that lost or stolen personal property is not covered for insurance purposes by State Risk Management. University faculty, staff, and students are responsible for obtaining their own insurance coverage.
