Capital
equipment must be secured and protected by department
personnel. If capital equipment is stolen without apparent forced
entry, State Risk Management insurance may not cover the
reimbursement to the university.

The following procedure is encouraged for improving capital
equipment security in departments:
- Confirm that the capital equipment has an ASU property control
number (ASU PC#) affixed to it. (This tag has proven to be a deterrent to theft.)
- Lock and secure all areas where capital equipment is located
when employees are not present in the area.
- Secure capital equipment to lab benches or desks, where
possible.
- Inventory capital equipment in the department
quarterly.
