Equipment must be secured and protected by department
personnel. If equipment is stolen without apparent forced
entry, State Risk Management insurance may not cover the
reimbursement to the university.

The following procedure is encouraged for improving equipment security in departments:
- Confirm that the capital equipment has an ASU Property Control
number affixed to it. (This tag has proven to be a deterrent to theft.)
- Lock and secure all areas where equipment is located
when employees are not present in the area.
- Secure equipment to lab benches or desks, where
possible.
- Inventory equipment in the department
quarterly.
