Policy

Spot Sales

Property being sent to Surplus Property and Recycling must be made available to university departments, at no charge in most cases, for a period of 15 calendar days. After 15 calendar days have expired, the property is made available to the general public and may be sold in a spot sale. At the discretion of the Surplus Property and Recycling manager, some items may not be held for 15 days. Once property is received at Surplus Property and inventoried, it becomes the property of Surplus Property.

Scrap Sales

All scrap materials to be recycled are sent to Surplus Property and Recycling for disposal. Film developing solutions, photographic and X-ray film, used oil, and batteries are sent to Environmental Health & Safety (see PCS 1002–05, “Disposal of Hazardous Materials”). Precious metals and all other recycled materials must be sent to Surplus Property and Recycling. Daily market prices are reviewed to obtain maximum sales revenue.
