Faculty offering the minor develops a proposal and a justification, and processes it through existing college procedures for establishing minors, if any.

The dean’s office sends the proposal and justification to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University.

The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University forwards the proposal and justification to:

  1. the deans

    and

  2. the Tempe campus Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee.

The deans and the Tempe campus Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee approve or disapprove the proposal.

The Tempe campus Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee:

  1. if the proposal is approved, reports the approval to the Academic Senate for information only
  2. if objections are raised, forwards the proposal and justification to the Academic Senate for a recommendation

    or

  3. if denied or deemed problematic, discusses the proposal with the appropriate administrative level.

If no major exists for the area, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University forwards the proposal and justification to the chief academic officers and to the associate director of academic programs (Board of Regents).

If endorsed by the chief academic officers, the associate director of academic programs (Board of Regents) forwards the proposal and justification, along with the chief academic officers’ decision, to the executive director of the Board of Regents.

The executive director, Board of Regents, approves and reports to the Board of Regents for consideration.
