Because not all registration can be completed through the normal procedures before the start of the semester, the drop/add time period has been made available to students at the beginning of each academic semester. This time period provides an opportunity for students to complete their registration during the first part of a semester but sometimes results in a student’s missing class sessions, assignments, exams, deadlines for papers, laboratory assignments, and so forth. At the instructor’s option the student may be required to complete all missed work.

The drop/add time period at the beginning of each semester is sanctioned by the administration and faculty of the university. This occasionally results in a student’s inability to meet requirements of the course that are incumbent upon other students. In such a case it is the student’s responsibility to make up any assignments such as questions, homework, papers, or tests that the instructor requires of other students during that time period. Sufficient time shall be given to complete such assignments, and no penalties of any sort will be assessed against the student because of his or her late entrance into the class.
| Note: | The Academic Senate passed this motion on April 15, 1991, and President Coor accepted it on May 30, 1991. However, it represents only part of the policy which has been in effect since 1925. Faculty should consult the references below for the complete policies regarding late enrollments. |
