ACD 304–03: Posting of Student Grades

Purpose

To safeguard the privacy rights of students

Faculty

Academic professionals

Administrative staff, service professionals, and classified staff

Teaching assistants

Policy

Student grades may not be posted by name or any readily identifiable number. Full student Social Security numbers or ASU ID may not be used in posting grades.

Procedure

To provide students with incremental and final grades before formal notification, instructors may use:

1. a private preassigned number for each student
2. a private code name

   or

3. the university-assigned posting ID. This number can be found on the class roster, the grade roster, and the Web roster system.

Note:

When using private codes for identification, faculty should scramble the alphabetical order so that students cannot be identified by where their names appear on the list of grades.
